How to paint Minotaurs Part 2 – Ivanus Enkomi

Minotaurs Banner
This post was a bit delayed due to real life getting in the way! Ivanus has been painted for some time, though he just required basing which I managed to do when I had a spare second last night.

I magnetized the cape as the has the option of a jump pack which I may want to make use of one day! (First I need to get my hands on a Jump Pack!)

So here is my step by step guide on how to paint Ivanus Enkomi of the Minotaurs!

Paint Used:
Abaddon Black
Hashut Copper
Blood Red
Runefang Steel
White Scar
Leadbelcher
Nuln Oil

Step One:
First step was under coating with Abaddon black spray, touching up with Abaddon paint and then covering the whole model with Nuln Oil, not stressing too much about the cape or the back at this stage. I then applied Hashut Copper to the big details, namely head, chest and staff.
20150316_20335720150316_20344520150316_203454

Step Two:
Next I did the same with the Hashut Copper but with Blood Red sections, namely plume, staff and cape..
20150316_20483420150316_20542220150316_205446

Step Three:
The skulls on knee and shoulder pad were painted with Runefang Silver. Whole model washed in Badab Black, not very sparingly!
20150316_21072820150316_210741

Step Four:
Hashut Copper was added to all details such as legs and shoulder pads etc. Also then washed in Badab Black.
20150316_21535920150316_220714

Step Five:
White was added to staff and honour seals, washed with Badab Black and on the seal a slight amount of Blood Red was added. Areas cleaned up.
20150316_22540120150316_225417

Step Six:
Leadbelcher added to metal parts of debris he is standing on, and based in my normal way of adding sand and nuln oiling it before it dries.

20150322_16302920150322_16305520150322_163110

Voila, a very simple and quite effective way of painting Ivanus! I hate painting black, as I think it looks quite bland, though as a Chaplain he is entitled to it! I think the key was to just paint in as much detail as possible!

How to paint Minotaurs Part 1 – Asterion Moloc

Minotaurs Banner
Well, I just finished painting and basing my Asterion Moloc model, and thought I would first share some photos of him, and then provide a tutorial on how I painted him!

So here is my step by step guide on how to paint Asterion Moloc of the Minotaurs!

Paint Used:
Abaddon Black
Hashut Copper
Blood Red
Warpstone Glow
Runefang Steel
White Scar
Leadbelcher
Nuln Oil
Vermin Brown

Step One:
First step was Simply under coating Asterion in black
20150313_200419

Step Two:
As lightly as possible, I covered all metal parts with Hashut Copper, not being too careful at this stage
20150314_11005220150314_11010320150314_110112

Step Three:
I then painted all the red parts in Blood Red, which is the cloak, the Minotaur heads on shield, leg, shoulder, and Black Spear, his loincloth and his plume.
20150314_11283520150314_11285420150314_112911

Step Four:
Here I painted all the white bits (White Scar), so the “feathery” parts on shoulder and shield, and his plume (forgot the seal on the leg, but did that later)
20150314_11435020150314_114402

Step Five:
Next up was the few green bits with Warpstone Glow, so the wreath on the shield, and the small badge on his chest, Whites on shield and shoulder were washed in Nuln Oin.
20150314_12123920150314_121247

Step Six:
Nuln Oil (wash cheat) time! Coated all the rest of the parts that needed to be brought out and touched up areas that required it, especially the greens whites and reds, and the details that required it on the Hashut Copper, so that it kept its shine in the middle, gave it a used dirty look, and the details are emphasized.
20150315_115502

Step Seven:
Abaddon Black on the parts that required it, including the Black Spear, which the tip was done in a way that some of the Bronze can still be seen underneath, though the staff is all black. Also the legs and shield parts were painted black.
20150315_120703

Step Eight:
I added Runefang Steel to the Crux Terminatus on his shoulder, shield and the skull on his leg.
The whole model was further Nuln Oiled to bring it all together, and final touch ups of the previous steps was done to make it all neat. Then I just based him in my normal way of adding sand and nuln oiling it before it dries. Then I add Army Painter static tuft. I painted the debris he is standing on with Leadbelcher and Vermin Brown, nuln oiled it, and then dry brushed over it again.

Complete!

Complete!

Unboxing Asterion Moloc and Ivanus Enkomi of the Minotaurs

Minotaurs Banner
Well Forge World’s shipping time to Australia is amazing, arriving in a week (record time from them so far is 4 days!). I took photos of each of the contents of Asterion and Ivanus for anyone that is interested!

Asterion Moloc:

Torso, Head and Legs
20150313_14004420150313_140037
Fantastic detail on his torso and legs, and his head is just too cool! There is some really nice detail on his back, which appears will be covered up by his cloak which is a little strange, but not complaining.

The “Black Spear”
20150313_14010420150313_140109
Again great detail, isn’t bent at all which has happened in the past with previous FW models, and just amazing looking in general.

Right Arm #1 + Rubble
20150313_14011820150313_140124
I say right arm #1, as for some reason there are two in there, one on a different sprue as I will show later.
The arm, notably the shoulder pad is incredible, loving that Minotaurs symbol. Also the rubble that his foot goes on looks quite nice, though I will have to look at what I am putting on the rest of the base now!

Right Arm #2 + Shield
20150313_14013320150313_140139
Here is the second right arm, which looks pretty much identical to the first one.
This shield, just wow! I wish FW sold them separately in packs of 5, for the rest of my future terminators!

Cloak
20150313_14015720150313_140219
Fairly standard, this is where the artists ability comes in to account. Will look at decals and maybe etched brass to bring this out.

Ivanus Enkomi

Head
20150313_14045720150313_140503
This head! The crest is greatly sculpted, as is the chaplain skull underneath, a very well “Spartanized” chaplain.

Torso + Legs
20150313_14032520150313_140318
Great detail, will be a shame to paint this black due to being a chaplain, as he is so amazing! Might have to pick out some more of the details not in black.

Right arm + Rubble
20150313_14031020150313_140306
Only one right arm for this guy, his rubble is also very nice looking.

Left Arm (Power Fist) + Staff of Crozius Arcanum
20150313_14041720150313_14040220150313_140431
Cool looking Power Fist, uniquely on a chaplain, holding the Crozius Arcanum. Very nice!

Crozius Arcanum Symbol
20150313_14035520150313_140349
A greatly detailed Minotaurs spin on the Crozius Arcanum Symbol!

Cloak with Backpack
20150313_14033420150313_140341
Nice unique backpack, again the cloak is up to the artist to really bring out.
As you can take a jump pack with Ivanus, I will use magnets so this is interchangeable.

Something
20150313_14024420150313_140250
Not sure what this bit is meant to be, but it looks like some fancy machinery.

So with all that complete, the next thing for me to do is assemble this pair of beasts!

Battle Report! Death Guard Vs. Blood Angels 1500 pts. (26 Nov 14)

This one was from a few months ago now, though it is the only one that I even have a couple of photos from, and a run down to jog my memory. This was played on the Blood Angels codex before their 7th edition was released (actually I think on 6th edition BRB), so jump infantry were still a troops choice. I don’t have his exact list, but I have it roughly. Pictures will be placed after turn three, as that is when the magic happens. Without further ado…

Deployment
The Mission was Purge the Alien, with Dawn of War deployment. Deploying first, I put one squad of Plague Marines (PMs) towards the right (6 w/ 1 Plasma), and the other two towards the left of the board (one in rhino).
I put my oblits on higher ground, in the middle of the board
Typhus was with the Nurgle spawn, doing his awesome sling shotting in to close combat, and they were placed just off centre to the left.
finally my zombies were placed in the far left corner.
Due to his terminators deploying inside the two Stormravens, he started with only his two assault marine squads on the field, one off centre left, and one off centre right.

Turn One
Death Guard
Turn one saw everything, except the oblits, move as fast as possible straight towards the assault marines. due to being out of LOS that was turn one Death Guard complete

Blood Angels
Assault Marines powered forward, the left side one avoiding the spawn and Typhus which were heading straight towards them, shooting at spawn, and thanks to great luck, killed one off the bat. Right side assault marines came in, destroyed a couple of PMs, and ended up in assault, the BA started dying.

Turn Two
Death Guard
Heldrake didn’t come in
Zombies moved towards the right combat of PMs and Assault Marines, though didn’t make it in to combat.
Typhus and spawn headed towards assault marines, though due to terrain they managed to stay out of combat again!
Rhino headed up, and space marines poured out, shooting at the left assault marines, killing one. Other PMs moved up.
Close combat saw another PM die, though the champion killed the SGT in close combat and got awarded spawnhood from papa Nurgle, glory be thy name!

Blood Angels
One Stormraven flies in, pops another spawn! Doesn’t spew his troops out
Left Assault Marines got in close combat with PMs, close combat saw more BA assault marines die on both sides.

Turn Three
Death Guard
The beginning of the end for the Blood Angels.
Heldrake comes on, flies straight over the Stormraven, vector striking it… 3 hits.. 2 glances.. 1 penetrate.. rolls explodes! It is now I will share the photos.
*NOTE* the Zombies had already moved due to me forgetting to bring in Heldrake first, hence why 1 inch away.

BATREP Full battle
Oblits!
PMs, zombies, and spawn oh my!
vector strike

So the Stormraven died, and Tycho + 1 terminator survived the crash!
Typhus and the spawn ran in, and gobbled them up, Typhus killing Tycho in personal combat, and the other terminator dying also.
Left side, other PMs pile in to close assault combat, right side combat saw devastating losses to assault marines with the entry of the zombies (who punched above their weight).

Blood Angels
Second Stormraven comes on, blows up the Heldrake!
Right side close combat is concluded, consolidated move towards the left side of things.
Left side close combat is also concluded.

Turn Four
Death Guard
Fire EVERYTHING that can wound the Stormraven at it. Terrible luck (and sky fire) sees no damage to the vehicle. Right side move more towards middle/left side

Blood Angels
Moves his Stormraven to centre of table, hovers, and terminators pile out. He has a choice here of pretty much assaulting everything, though my Obliterators, the right side PMs, Mr. Spawnhood or the zombies (who were lagging a little behind) were the closest. He chose the PMs though failed to kill them all! I think the Stormraven might have shot something at the Obliterators wounding one of them.

Turn Five
Death Guard
Royal rumble in the middle of the table! I am pretty mad at myself for not getting a photo of this part. Everyone just piled in on the terminators and PMs close combat, except the oblits who shot at the hovering Stormraven with their lascannons and failed to kill it. The terminators all died to tooth, nail and claw!
After the Terminators died he conceded defeat, with only the wounded Stormraven left.

Conclusion
Was a fun game, though was fairly one sided, due to the fact that there were never enough threats on the board for me to deal with at one time. If both Stormravens had of come out at the same time, dumping their troops on me and blowing everything else up, it would have been a very different game. I learnt never to put too much in reserves to begin with, as the randomness of their arrival really can make or break your entire battle. I was nervous at the start with a quick killing of the spawn and some early losses of PMs, though my luck really turned around after that, and his dice rolling plummeted. There was at one point on his assault marine charge where he needed 4’s to hit, and 4’s to wound, he rolled all 5’s, then all 3s and 2s. like 20 dice below 4. Was incredible.

Anyway, thanks for reading, I am in contact with a friend of mine asking if he can remember any of the battles we had blow by blow, so if between us we can remember, I will be posting another Batrep then!

My Nurgle army – HQs

Death Guard
Until recently I only had one HQ for my Nurgle Death Guard army, which was Lord Typhus the Traveller. Since Christmas, that number has gone up to 4.
The following is my CSM HQS:

Typhus
My beloved Typhus
This guy is the model that actually got me collecting CSM in the first place. He is the perfect model, and fun to use on the battlefield as well.

Nurgle Daemon Prince
Nurgle Daemon
Got this fella for Christmas, he packs a hell of a punch, and is an amazing model. He was a lot of fun to paint and assemble.

Nurgle Chaos Lord
Nurgle Chaos Lord
This model was from Dark Vengeance. I am thinking of changing the cloak colour to brown, as the red doesn’t look Nurgly enough. He still needs basing as well, which will happen in the next few weeks.

Nurgle Chaos Lord on Bike
Nurgle Chaos Lord on Bike
The biker lord is one of my current ongoing projects, I will update another blog post as his painting progresses
